Welcome! I'm glad you decided to prioritize your mental health! Seeking treatment for the first time can feel frightening. If you are feeling anxious about getting started, please feel free to share that with me. I have worked with many clients who are just starting their therapeutic journeys, and I love being able to support them in the process!
I specialize in working with clients experiencing eating disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, and life transitions, so many of my clients come to me with these concerns. However, I work with clients who are experiencing a wide variety of struggles, or who are looking for support and a safe place to talk through things in their lives. I work with all age groups and people from all backgrounds. My practice is welcoming, affirming, and inclusive of individuals all races, ethnicities, religions, gender identities, and sexual orientations.
I do not accept insurance at this time. However, I do accept HSA/FSA cards, and I can provide monthly superbills to be submitted for reimbursement to insurance companies. If you are interesting in submitting a superbill, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask if they accept out-of-network providers, and if they are able to reimburse you for superbills.
When mental health providers contract with insurance companies, they are required to provide the insurance company with a specific diagnosis for each client, and may be required to provide information regarding each client's care. The insurance company uses this information to decide how much care will be covered. This presents two issues. One, mental health providers may be required to violate patient confidentiality when giving information regarding their clients to insurance companies. Two, insurance companies often terminate services before treatment goals have been obtained. As a mental health clinician, I want you and I to be able to collaborate on a treatment plan that feels most helpful and supportive for you, rather than being forced to follow insurance guidelines.
I offer both in-person and virtual services in the state of Delaware. Per nurse practitioner licensing laws, clients receiving virtual services need to physically be sitting in Delaware during their appointment with me. Clients living in nearby areas of New Jersey and Pennsylvania are more than welcome to come work with me in my office (as are clients who live in Delaware but prefer in-person services)!
My office is located at 1521 Concord Pike, Suite 301, Wilmington, Delaware. It is situated approximately one minute away from I-95, and about 10-15 minutes from the Commodore Barry Bridge and the Pennsylvania border.
I require 24 hours notice for cancellations. If you must cancel within 24 hours, you are responsible for the full fee for service.
As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I am licensed to both perform psychotherapy and prescribe psychiatric medications. I am able to provide any combination of these services: I see some clients strictly for psychotherapy, some clients for medication management, and some clients for both. Clients who are interested in both psychotherapy and medication management are NOT required to see me for both. If you have questions about this, please feel free to reach out to me, and we can discuss a treatment plan that feels like a good fit for you!
I practice from a variety of theoretical orientations and utilize many therapeutic modalities, as is common in the mental health field. Some of my preferred therapeutic modalities include psychodynamic psychotherapy, adolescent-focused therapy for eating disorders, compassion-focused therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. I tailor my therapeutic approach to each individual I work with, and collaborate with each of my clients to come up with a treatment plan that feels best for them. If you have a question about any of these therapeutic modalities, or would like to try something I have not listed, please feel free to reach out to me!
As an eating disorder specialist, many of my clients work with a "treatment team" to help them pursue recovery. This often includes a primary care provider, therapist, psychiatric medication provider, registered dietitian, and dentist, and may include additional providers. I am happy to work with any of the listed providers, whether or not you are receiving treatment for an eating disorder. Additionally, at times I work with school psychologists/social workers when clients are in need of accommodations at school, such as access to coping skills or psychiatric medication. If you would like me to work with a provider, family member, or member of your community to help with your care, please bring this up with me! We can discuss this as part of your care. As a standard of care, I provide all of my clients with a Release of Information form for each individual they would like me to communicate with. Clients may request in writing that I cease providing information to these individuals at any time.
Believe me, this is a common question, especially because my credentials sometimes sound a little different from other therapists or prescribers. I hold a Master of Science in Nursing degree (MSN), and I am licensed as a psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP). I am certified by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center (hence the "BC", which stands for board-certified).
I may be unique from other mental health providers you have worked with in that my undergraduate degree is in nursing, and I have a background working as a registered nurse. However, I went to graduate school to receive training in psychotherapy and medication management, similar to other mental health professionals you may have worked with. My training is considered by the mental health field to be equivalent with other masters-prepared clinicians (LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCs, etc.). Additionally, I possess the training and licensure to prescribe psychiatric medications.
